it’s been nonstop busy the last few weeks. we’ve moved again and are getting settled. this morning we took a few hours to revisit one of our favorites, tilden. this time we took cb to see the new piglets and other animals at tilden farm. she especially loved petting the cows!
Friendships are in bloom in the Dragon Room and in the Dragon Yard this week. We have noticed how your children are helping each other from finding a missing sock to giving up a toy that their friend really wanted to play with. Also the use of language between friends has become more frequent. There is not as much grabbing or taking toys away from each other without saying “Can I be next with that toy?” We also haven’t had to give as many reminders to your children about using their words before their hands. Words are also being used to enter into play. We have also observed the Dragon Room friends showing empathy toward each other. Learning how to be a good friend is a tool that will last your children forever.
In the classroom building was popular this week. Your children had many building materials to choose from: They had Lego’s, colored wooden blocks, large and small plastic spools, bristle blocks and tinker toys. Signs also came into play as your children were building. The Danger Hard Hat Area sign is popular when building a really high tower, as well as the orange construction sign. Small stop signs were also used; as some of the children taped them onto their buildings.
Rain, rain go away come again another day. What a wet week this has been, but a little rain didn’t stop the Dragon Room Kids from having a good time. We found lots of exciting things to do inside. The water table filled with friendly sharks was very popular, as was the corn meal tub with small spoons, cups and little dogs. These two activities were not only fun, but gave your children just another opportunity to practice their fine motor skills and eye hand coordination. You can also do similar activities with your children at home; it might even bring out the kid in you (haha).
Go Dog Go Project:
This week dancing on our big stop sign was very popular. The children have done Disco dancing, the Twist, Boogie Woogie, and the Jitterbug. I think we have surpassed Elmo’s dancing on his stop sign.
During circle time this week we introduced a short –2- minute video to the children of Elmo taking a walk with his friend Chris around the town to find signs. Your children even saw a few new signs like Zoo ,Laundry and Wet Paint. At the end of the video Merle yelled: “ That sign says Sesame Street”. He was right, there on the screen was the Sesame Street sign. The next time we watched the video all of the children yelled out “there is the Sesame Street sign”. Wow! What memories.
The best part of this video through was when Elmo and his friend Chris danced on top of a STOP sign. Well we couldn’t let Elmo have all of the fun, so we brought our STOP sign inside and danced on top of it. We had Princess dancing on the STOP sign, tap dancing and Kyler was doing a little break dancing. This week was a lot of FUN!
looking forward to some relaxing evenings like this one in our new town… after a year of exploration (especially the last 3 months) we may have found home. for that i am very grateful indeed!
